Author Guidelines

The journal aims to publish new interdisciplinary research on various issues related to Indigenous languages of the North and the Arctic. It welcomes original, high-quality articles from researchers, faculty members, graduate students and established scholars worldwide.

The article, including illustrative material and the References section, should be 8–30 pages.

Manuscript Formatting Requirements

  • The manuscript should be submitted in Microsoft Word 97-2003 (*.doc) or Word (*.docx) format.
  • Author information must be attached as a separate file. Additional files with illustrations may also be included.

Text Formatting

  • Editor: MS Word
  • Page size: A4, portrait orientation
  • Margins:
    • Top: 2.0 cm
    • Bottom: 3.0 cm
    • Left & Right: 2.5 cm
  • Paragraph indentation: 1.25 cm (set via the ruler or Paragraph settings; do not use spaces for indentation).
  • Line spacing: 1.5
  • Font:
    • Main text: 14 pt, Times New Roman
    • Abstract: 12 pt, Times New Roman

Language & Transliteration

  • The journal publishes articles in Russian and English.
  • Words in other languages should first be transliterated into Cyrillic, then followed by the original form in parentheses.
    • Example: юрюнг (үрүҥ), кысыл (кыhыл), бёрё (бөрө), etc.
  • All examples in other languages must include a Russian translation.
    • Format: Original text in italics [in-text citation], followed by the translation in ‘single quotation marks’ [in-text citation].
    • If the translation is the author’s own, indicate: [trans. by the author].

Special Terms & Abbreviations

  • All cultural terms (e.g., хонуу, таас, баттах, үрүйэ) should be italicized and, if necessary, defined in parentheses upon first mention.
  • All abbreviations must be expanded in a separate Abbreviations section after the main text.

Footnotes

  • Footnotes may be used for:
  1. Citations of non-scientific sources.
  2. Definitions of terms, concepts, or words.
  3. Additional information that does not fit into the main text.
  • Format: Arabic numerals, restarting numbering on each page.

Tables

  • Must include titles and continuous numbering (e.g., Table 1).
  • Font size: 12 pt.
  • In-text reference: abbreviated (Table 1).
  • Placement:
    • Table number: right-aligned.
    • Title: centered, bold, on the next line.
  • Tables and their titles must be translated into English and Russian.
  • For the template see Appendix 1.

Illustrations (Figures)

  • Includes graphs, maps, diagrams, and photos.
  • Labeled as Рис. 1 (Fig. 1 in English), bold, centered, 12 pt font.
  • In-text reference: mandatory (e.g., Fig. 1).
  • Size: Minimum 40×50 mm, maximum 120×170 mm.
  • Color images are allowed.
  • Figure captions must be translated into English.

References (Bibliography)

  • Articles with sources only in English should include one list of References (References/Литература). Articles with sources in Russian should include two lists, in Russian (Литература) and in English (References).
  • Citation style: Vancouver (in-text citations in square brackets, e.g., [5, p. 67]).
    • Single page: [5, p. 67]
    • Multiple pages: [3, pp. 12-56]
    • Multiple sources: [1; 2; 3]
    • Multiple sources with pages: [1, p. 34; 2, p. 45]
  • References should primarily include peer-reviewed sources (e.g., journal articles).
  • Recommended:
    • 15-25 sources, preferably from the last 5 years.
    • Include DOIs where available.
    • Self-citations should not exceed 20% of total references.
